        Meet Everyday Hero

        Anne Stuhldreher

Anne Stuhldreher is the first-ever Director of The Financial Justice Project for the City and County of San Francisco, where she has pioneered the first effort of any city government in the nation to assess and reform how fines, fees and financial penalties disproportionately impact low-income communities.

Anne is a humble but brilliant and passionate person about social justice

Do You Know an Everyday Hero?

We want to know you Everyday Hero and celebrate their actions. Nominate your hero and they might be selected to be honored at the upcoming Everyday Heroes event SFHDC 2021 GALA this September 24th.

        Nominate your hero!

In this capacity, Anne has been singularly instrumental in the movement to reduce financial burdens on San Francisco residents that disproportionately affect people of color, while also introducing new policies that take into consideration a person’s ability to pay. Prior to launching the Financial Justice Project, Anne led innovations in financial and economic empowerment with initiatives such as Bank on San Francisco, Working Families Credit and Kindergarten to College, in addition to serving as Policy Advisor to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“Anne is a humble but brilliant and passionate person about social justice,” says nominator, Lena Robinson, Director of Community Development at First Republic Bank. “I remember being at City Hall on the day that she invited San Francisco residents to come and testify about the impact of fines and fees on their lives. Anne had no idea so many people were going to show up and it was just a remarkable validation of how important this issue is to so many people.”

Anne’s work has also brought attention to the exorbitant costs of phone calls that allow families to keep in touch with incarcerated loved ones, leading the city to make these calls free. She has also spearheaded efforts to expand access to public transit for people experiencing homelessness. For her long career of working behind the scenes to affect real change and implement innovative public policies that provide financial and social stability for low-income residents and communities of color, we are proud to recognize Anne as an Everyday Hero!
