SFHDC’s comprehensive and integrated Financial Empowerment Center is based in Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood of Southeast San Francisco. We are a HUD-certified counseling agency that provides free and low-cost financial and housing counseling to low- and moderate-income households from throughout the city. The clients can participate in three monthly workshops: First Time Homebuying, Rental Readiness and Credit Matters, each with follow-up individual counseling.
Accomplishments
- During the past five years, SFHDC has worked with over 2,000 low-income residents to strengthen their financial security by providing workshops, classes and individual counseling focused on financial literacy and asset building.
- We have prepared and assisted several hundred homebuyers in the last 10 years.
- This past year alone (mid-2013 to mid-2014), SFHDC’s housing counseling program produced 23 successful low- and moderate-income first time homebuyers—the second highest of all housing counseling programs in the City.
- In the past year, SFHDC assisted nearly 800 clients with general financial literacy services, including budgeting, savings and credit restoration.
