It is a day to celebrate, a day for reflecting back on our collective American history and the Black experience — but also a day for looking forward to the work that remains to achieve genuine Black equity in America. On this newest of national holidays, we invite you to explore and revisit the lived experience of freedom warriors like Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Anna Murray Douglass, Frederick Douglass and countless other abolitionist heroes who fought for emancipation. Their stories inspire us to continue forging paths forward to genuine equity, to examine the roots of racism that still take hold in society and to dismantle the structural inequalities in America. Below are several events happening around the Bay Area to commemorate Juneteenth. However you choose to spend the day, we wish you and yours the best.
