As reported by Everyday Hero nominator, Dynastii Wynn, ”Mamma TT said she was going to feed the world eventually, but she started in our neighborhood.” For Mamma TT, the word “No” was not a barrier but rather a challenge to activate her community. This perspective was realized through her support of her sister, Lisa–an Everyday Hero in her own right–as the founder of United in Love, an anti-gun violence organization. From that starting point, she reached out to District 10 Supervisor Shamman Walton, who connected her to Cathy Davis at Bayview-Hunters Point Multipurpose Senior Services, who ensured she had the food needed for her drive to support her neighborhood. “Every day, Ma TT would have us all working and dropping off hot meals to the seniors and disabled.” As the pandemic crisis continued, many residents would have given up but for the efforts of Mama TT. Her mission only grew to partner with her church, Our Lady of Lourdes, and other neighborhood churches as well as local organizations. These included City of Life, Sozo, Mobile of Love, Our Lady of Lourdes, All Hallows, United In Love, and the Black Coalition of Churches.
“One day, I thought I was just going to the store with TT and we stopped by the YCD,” recalls Dynastii. “She got a lot of hot food boxes and then went down 3rd Street. Everybody on the street seemed to know my TT as she handed out food, hand sanitizer, and prayers. My proudest moment was when she helped the homeless people and knew all their names. There were many families, and some with kids my age. She not only fed them but gave them gifts, boxes of food, and clothes. I told Ma T she was going to Heaven. She just smiled and said, ‘This is God’s work.’” Ma T is my hero because she is selfless, amazing, and always helping others no matter what and she treats everyone like family!“
