As a recovering addict and resident of public housing who has built a successful career, Uzuri serves as a spokesperson underserved and underrepresented communities. Her drive is to influence policy decisions for households that lack the power to do so. When her husband, Donald Greene, became interested in working to strengthen the bonds within their community, Uzuri encouraged him to found the Community Awareness Resource Entity (C.A.R.E.). The organization promotes safety for Potrero Hill residents and provides many grassroots community events. In addition to leading C.A.R.E., Uzuri is on the Police Chief’s African American Advisory Council and the Bayview Community Police Advisory Board and serves the San Francisco Police Department as part of their procedural justice education team. In 2018, Uzuri ran a competitive campaign for District 10 Supervisor to demonstrate to the community that anyone can have a voice in government if they know how to use it.
