455 Fell: Enhancing Community Living in Hayes Valley

In 2019, SFHDC completed the development of 455 Fell in Hayes Valley, a project that successfully delivered 108 affordable family rental units. This initiative marks another significant achievement in our efforts to provide quality housing solutions in San Francisco.

Development Overview: The project, awarded through a competitive process by the SF Mayor’s Office of Housing (MOHCD), was designed by Leddy Maytum Stacey Architects and Paulett Taggart. It offers a mix of low-income family rental units, with 20% of units set aside for formerly homeless households.

Community and Sustainability Focus: 455 Fell is not just about housing; it’s about building a community. The development includes multiple resident spaces such as a garden and courtyard, designed to foster a sense of vibrancy and community among residents.

SFHDC’s Involvement: Our role extended beyond development; we also established a satellite office on-site to provide financial empowerment and community activities, furthering our commitment to supporting residents where they live.

Support for Formerly Homeless Households: In collaboration with Episcopal Community Services, we have ensured that enriched services are available for formerly homeless clients, providing them with the necessary support to thrive in their new homes.

Celebrating the Start: The groundbreaking of 455 Fell was a momentous event, celebrated by community leaders including Acting SF Mayor London Breed and representatives from Bank of America, the California Department of Housing and Community Development, and the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association.

455 Fell Today: Since its completion, 455 Fell has become a valued addition to Hayes Valley, providing essential affordable housing and enriching the neighborhood. It’s a tangible result of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the living conditions and well-being of San Francisco residents.
